If you travel on delta a lot, have a good centurion lounge in your home airport that you can easily access, and/or can make use of all the credits without feeling like you’re locked in to using your money at those places, I think it would be worth it for you. With the AF increase this year, needing to go out of my way to get to a lounge at times for some okay food/packed seating area, minimal spend on the card otherwise, and the need to use credits to recoup part of the AF back, I decided to cancel this year. I initially got the Platinum in 2019 to supplement the CSR with more lounge access but mainly charged flights/travel to the CSR anyway. I mainly used my Priority Pass lounge access when overseas aside from once at LHR (Centurion). At JFK, AA flights leave from T8 and going to the Centurion lounge at T4 was nice, but it was always packed and the food was just okay. The Virgin lounge was nice for int’l departures but I only used it once, and the Centurion lounge at SFO is in a completely different terminal than where AA flights depart so I never went. Here’s my experience after using the card for 3 years - I used to travel 4-5 times a year, mostly international but with some cross-country SFO-JFK flights too. Usually my connections are short, but on the rare occasion that I have some extra time it is nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main terminal. They can be a lifeline to sanity when you have a delayed flight. Not so much the Centurion Lounges, but I fly Delta and make use of the Sky Clubs frequently. How much do I value the lounges though? This is one of the main perks for me. Starting in February 2023, The Platinum Card ® from American Express guests will be charged a 50 guest fee. PP outside the US can be useful, but every lounge is different and you should definitely manage expectations. American Express boasts 13 Centurion Lounges in the United States and 11 in international locations. If you do manage to find a PP lounge, many of them are closed to PP members due to lounge overcrowding. If you can get the PP Select that includes restaurants it is a bit better since you can get $28/person for food and drinks, but that perk is not included with Amex and Venture X recently got rid of it or is getting rid of it. American Express Centurion and Platinum Card Members can gain access to the exclusive Centurion Suite and receive two free drinks on us. A note on Priority Pass: The PP lounge network inside the US sucks.Couple that with there often being a line to get into the lounges and you may find your layover wasn't really that long at all. It may take a while to transit to/from the lounge especially if your arrival and/or departure gate is far from the lounge or even in a different terminal. Depending on the length of your layover, you may not even have time to access the Centurion lounges. That said, while $695 is on the higher end of the cost of a lounge membership with major airlines, the Platinum card probably provides the best lounge access network available assuming you fly Delta Airlines domestically. At $695 a year you could probably save a lot of money just eating in airport restaurants for a "few trips in the first half of 2023".
